30 years ago, the French Government in conjunction with Renault, came up with the enlightened plan to make brand new Renaults available to tourists on a “tax-free” basis.

Tourists coming to France were not paying European taxes so, just like the duty free bottle of scotch, the cars could be sold to the tourists exempt of European taxes, yet only a daily rate for the car would be paid. This amount can be as low as AUD$28 per day for a small car for upto 175 days (maximum period).

Temporary French car leasing suits many types of travellers:

• Extended stay travellers – 12 days or more (can return the vehicle earlier but no refund applicable)
• Multiple European country travellers
• Backpackers – 30 days or more
• Retired or semi-retired travellers
• Academics on study leave
• Ex-pats returning home to visit the family
• Families or couples, so much easier than carrying luggage on and off trains and public transport. 
  Am I eligible for this leasing plan?
  YES:
• I am an Australian resident and intend returning to my residence outside the European Union
• I am over 21 years of age (no upper age limit) and
• I hold a full Australian driver’s licence.
  NO:
• I am receiving income from European Union revenue producing activities (includes working holiday visas). 
  There are simply no pitfalls. You, the traveller in Europe, receive a brand new car from the factory with about four kilometres on the clock. It hasn’t been smoked in nor has someone else’s dog has slept in it – though your dog can of course.
• It is registered in your name so it has a full comprehensive insurance with NIL excess.
• You have unlimited kilometres.
• There are no extra costs.
